Do Not Lose Your Employees
As if 2020 could not throw any more curve balls at us, parents with school age children are now having to make incredibly tough decisions. Public schools across the nation are announcing plans for the 2020-2021 school year and they are not in favor of working parents. Remote and hybrid schedules are a working parent's nightmare. The last decade has been focused on increasing the number of women in the workforce at every level, including leadership positions and in one fell swoop, that will all change.
Organizations are struggling and there are many challenges to navigate but they need to focus on creating environments that support working parents in order to keep strong talent. It is time to take those flexible work arrangement programs and dial it up for this next year! It will help to retain and build loyalty and employee output will naturally increase. I can remember when my children would fall ill and the anxiety I would have telling my team or my leaders that I needed to be home with my child, that is nothing compared to the balancing act that is sure to come this year.
Employers- we all need a bit of grace this year, let's do what we can to support our employees and be flexible so that parents do not have to make tough choices- should I continue with my position or leave to be a full time school teacher at home?
